Lakes Urmia, Van and Mosul, in Iran, Turkey and Iraq
The two large lakes visible here are Lake Van, in Turkey, in the upper left quadrant, and Lake Urmia, in northwestern Iran, at the center right. Lake Van is deeper and dark blue in color, while its neighbor is shallower and ringed with white salt flats. Another, much smaller lake can be observed in the lower left quadrant, in Iraq. This is the reservoir created by the Mosul Dam on the Tigris River. It is ranked as the fourth largest dam in the Middle East, measured by reserve capacity, capturing snowmelt from Turkey, some 70 mi north. source
